Well, UFC 269 has suffered it’s first battle wound. The December 11th card set for the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas will go on without an anticipated welterweight fight. That’s because Jorge Masvidal off UFC 269 due to an undisclosed injury right now.

The fight between Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal has been brewing since their run in backstage more than two-years ago in London.

Since then the duo have gone back and forth about settling things in the octagon. But UFC Chief Business Officer, Hunter Campbell broke the news first which was later broken by MMAFighting. The seventh ranked Masvidal is on a two-fight skid, dropping both to champion Kamaru Usman.

Edwards, the third-ranked welterweight won his last fight, after having an eight-fight win streak snapped by his no contest with Belal Muhammad. With him itching and consistently calling for a title shot; that’s exactly what he did again upon hearing the news.

It’s believed that “Rocky” will not remain on the card either, as he tries to zero in on a shot for the strap. However, post UFC 268, Usman had said he wanted and needed to spend some much important time with his young daughter. A move that any father could understand.

In the meantime running back the fight with Muhammad would not be such a bad thing. Or another possible option could be a fight with Vicente Luque who actually missed weight as the back-up for the Usman versus Colby Covington rematch at Madison Square Garden. If he doesn’t want an extended time away from the cage.

The December 11th card’s main event is for the lightweight title, were Dustin Poirier seeks to gain the gold for the second time. While the co-main has Amanda Nunes defending the women’s bantamweight belt against Juliana Pena.
