The Super Bowl is always the most televised event in any year. Obviously, there’s a various amount of reasons as to why people watch it. Most of the time people are passionate football fans, and sometimes watching it with a group of people makes it more enjoyable. It’s a known fact, however, that a good chunk of people also enjoy the commercials that come with it. Due its vast popularity, the NFL always demands a hefty price if a company wishes to air a commercial during the Super Bowl. This usually results in some compelling and creative advertisements. One commercial that aired, after the stellar halftime performance, was a scene that featured LeBron James in a Crypto.com commercial.

Basically, the commercial featured a high school version James interacting with his present day self. The conversation featured the high school version James asking about the present day technology and advances. He also asked whether or not if the “hype”, in terms of basketball career, was too much to handle. In the end, the commercial was sponsored by Crypto.com. If that website domain sounds familiar it’s because Crypto.com became the new stadium sponsor for the Los Angeles Lakers. It was formally called the Staples Center.

James & Crypto

James has appeared in a numerous amount of Crypto.com commercials recently, and it seems as though he’s their newest spokesperson. Cryptocurrency has been taking the sports world by storm lately, and Crypto.com is no exception. They became the latest jersey ad sponsor for the Philadelphia 76ers, and even purchased the naming rights to the Staples Center (Home of the Lakers and Clippers). This move was somewhat controversial and surprising. Because it was originally reported that the Staples company had a lifetime deal with ownership. Nonetheless, this past Christmas, the Staples Center became Crypto.com Arena. Obviously, there were a lot of questions in regards to how Crypto.com was able to obtain the naming rights to the Lakers’ home facility.

Well, a 20-year, $700 million deal will definitely get the job done. However, there might be more to the story than what meets the eye. Because it’s a known fact that James has a lot of power when it comes to front office business decisions. Fans jokingly refer to him as “LeGM“. Since cryptocurrency is still a relatively new concept, it could be possible that James put in a “strong recommendation” for Crypto.com. I’m sure the Lakers have received offers to have their stadium naming rights purchased in years past. With James being the centerpiece of the organization, and also being a spokesperson for Crypto.com, it could be possible that he has more of a say than people realize.
