Valentine’s day is here and it’s likely to have you in your feelings. Whether you’re in a relationship, single, or ready to get out there and mingle, it’s a day to reflect on love.
It’s also a perfect time for Man Crush Monday. Here’s a list of players who have had my heart racing, and me on the edge of my seat.
Josh Allen, QB, Buffalo Bills
Although the Buffalo Bills were recently defeated in the playoffs, it was despite the Herculean efforts of Allen. He had the game of his life against the Kansas City Chiefs going 27 of 37 for 329 yards with four touchdowns. Allen also added 68 yards rushing in a showdown with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Josh went from a 52% and 58% passer in his first two seasons to nearly 70 percent in 2020. Although that number dipped to 63% this year, he’s always a marvel to watch. Allen and the Bills shrugged off a midseason slump to capture the AFC East title for the second straight season.
Josh Allen has an easy smile and a cool demeanor that makes him easy to love. He’s also a dual-threat dynamo that makes him a challenge for defenses to stop.
Fred VanVleet, PG, Toronto Raptors
After years of being one of the most underrated players in the NBA, VanVleet was just named an All-Star. It’s well deserved for a guy who is used to being told that he’s not good enough. Freddy went undrafted in 2016 despite being a four-year starter on a very successful Wichita State team.

He was a part of the Raptors championship run in 2019 and has taken on a bigger role since then. Known as a clutch shooter, FVV is connecting on nearly 40 percent (39.3%) of his three-point attempts. He also uses his unique body type to finish in traffic. VanVleet is one of the most tenacious defenders in the league and ranks among the leaders in deflections.
Gary Trent Jr., SG, Raptors
Trent Jr. was something of an unknown to many Raptors fans when they acquired him from Portland last season. Not only has he proven to be a great addition, but he’s also quickly making a star turn.
Gary recently became just the fourth player in NBA history with five consecutive games with 30+ points and five three-pointers made. Since becoming a Raptor, Trent Jr. has exceeded the 40-point plateau twice, including a 42-point effort vs. Houston last Thursday. He’s also stepped up his game on the defensive end, ranking third in steals per game
Vladimir Guerrero Jr., 1B, Blue Jays
Yes, baseball and the summertime seem like a distant memory now. But no baseball player lit up my summer more than Vladdy. Entering 2021 my feelings towards the phenom were like that of an old flame who let you down. He had a special place in my heart but needed to earn my trust back.
A Big Read on the most pivotal big-picture player decision facing the Blue Jays once the lockout ends — how to handle the long-term futures of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette: https://t.co/5wJfKoey2t

Well, he did that, and then some. Guerrero Jr. had a season for the ages, leading the AL in runs, home runs, and total bases. Although the Jays fell one game shy of the postseason, his performance has me dreaming of a wonderful future.
Bo Bichette, SS, Blue Jays
Ok, by now you realize (if you didn’t before) that these are all Toronto players (or in Buffalo’s case, Toronto adjacent). Well, sue me. I’m a Canadian living in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) and these are the teams I root for.
Bo Bichette is the type of player that can steal your heart in an instant. He’s also become quite efficient at stealing bases. He swiped 25 bags in 2021 and was only caught once. Bichette fulfilled all the promises he had shown over the previous few years while developing as a top prospect. With his flowing hair, violent swing, and boyish good looks, he’s the type I look forward to falling for every Spring.
