Jaquan Brisker is a Safety out of Penn State and was originally a juco player. This draft’s safety class is a pretty good all around class in my opinion. Kyle Hamilton is a generational talent for the position and there are other names like Lewis Cine and Daxton Hill towards the top. I think there are some players that could eventually be sleepers and that Brisker could fall down draft boards just due to not getting that much hype.

His Body Type

Athletically, Brisker really is a freak. This draft has so many freaks that Brisker may get overlooked because he doesn’t pop off the page like others have from the combine. Brisker is 6’1″ and 200 pounds. That is a really good size for a safety and he benched 22 reps at the combine which is pretty insane for his size. He also ran a 4.49 second 40 yard dash which is also above average for a safety.

Where He Wins

Brisker wins with his versatility. Brisker is really versatile and can do whatever NFL scheme they need him to do. He is fast and has enough range to not let anything get past him Brisker can also chase down the outside runs if needed. He has really done it all at Penn State and has shown that he can cover tight ends without any help. Brisker has also shown he can cover the slot receiver from time to time. I like what I see when Penn State uses him in the box as well, and being able to be used in the run fit. I really like his game being able to cover any type of body and forcing as many breakups as he does at the point of contact. He is just a do-it/all safety that can excel no matter what scheme he goes into.

Where He Can Improve

I feel like he has improved his play year-over-year and has already been working on being able to play faster. Brisker checks all the boxes really to play safety, so there aren’t many questions I have about his skills. He has shown to take bad angles toward the ball carrier at times, letting the runner go right past him. Also, he lets the play come to him more than I would like. This seems to be from him not recognizing the play quickly enough.

Overall

Brisker is great all around safety that is “scheme proof”, so he can do well in any situation. He also played at a high level in the Big 10, so he should really translate his skills to the NFL. I think a high second round to low first round grade is good for him, but I really don’t think that he’ll be drafted in the first.
