Attribute Breakdown

Vision – Not ideal. Robinson often missed lanes or cutbacks he should’ve hit, and he doesn’t navigate through developing blocks exceptionally well.

Elusiveness – Not elusive at all. He has one move, and that is bouncing out, but in space, that move isn’t very effective. He takes big, labored strides, and his change of direction isn’t nearly quick enough to elude tacklers consistently.

Contact Balance – Very good contact balance, but that is likely due to his size. I think that advantage might shrink in the NFL. It appears on tape that tacklers just slid right off him. I assume he will still be successful at that at the next level, but it’s not enough to hang your hat on.

Blocking – Very good blocker, but his form needs improvement. He often just lowered his shoulder and chip blocked or rammed into oncoming defenders, without properly getting both hands on them. On the occasions he did, he was dominant and immovable.

Burst – I wouldn’t call it “burst”, more like springiness. Once he spots the hole, his feet propel him into it, but that acceleration isn’t sustained more than a few steps in.

Receiving – Has good hands, but he is not going to be a receiving back on the next level. He isn’t a good route runner and his concept for space isn’t ideal.

Explosiveness – Robinson has good speed, but not breakaway speed. He plays with good size and once he gets rolling in the open field, he is hard to get down. However, he doesn’t get to the second level often enough, and once he’s there he can’t elude experienced tacklers or outrun them.

Combine – A great Combine could’ve sent his stock sky-rocketing, but he put up very average numbers.

Brian Robinson Jr. played in many big-time games, but possibly too many

Overall

Brian Robinson Jr. is the next of the long line of Alabama Running Backs to declare for the draft.
He played on a very powerful offense and had some very productive games, but I don’t think he has the tools to become a quality NFL back.
For starters, he isn’t a good receiving back, which will limit his role tremendously in today’s NFL. Additionally, he doesn’t have good speed, elusiveness, or burst to give him an edge, and his vision and anticipation are terrible.
A 23-year-old rookie isn’t an enticing thought, not to mention, he has 545 carries under his belt. That is a lot of mileage.
He is a big bruising back, and some teams may covet that type of running style, but I doubt he will be a mainstay quality starter for any team. He seems more like a journeyman early-down back a best.
