Barclay’s Center; Brooklyn, New York

One’s belief in oneself is a powerful machine. Like they say, “fake it till you make it”. Well despite his pre-fight prediction not coming true, and his night ending badly; Rolando Romero, has no reason to hang his head. For the first couple of rounds there was a combination of things going on. Romero wasn’t in awe of the situation, took some rounds, as it took Tank a while to figure him out. However, like a World War 2 Sherman Tank; Tank Davis keeps on rolling along.

Yes, Gervonta Davis has had plenty of issues away from the ring. Before his story is completely told we don’t know if those will derail it. But as for now, the 27-year old Baltimore native is coming to some forks in the road that will have a say in that story.

At 3:59 of round-six after a counter left hand landed on “Rolly’s” face sending him into the ropes he comes to fork number one. His contract is now officially over with Mayweather Promotions. It’s a safe bet that there is a whisper in Davis’ head why not go solo like his mentor Floyd Mayweather Jr.. Although unlike Canelo Alvarez, he’s far from having the ability to do that just yet.

Tank Keeps On Rolling; Who Does He Roll Up To Next

Post-fight he decided for whatever reason not to call out anyone specifically. Perhaps it’s because that first fork has to be figured out. Does he resign, or move to a new promoter. Only looking at in-ring Tank; his skills are undeniable. It’s the outside though, that may keep some promoters pens in their pockets. Romero immediately has called for a rematch, but that doesn’t seem to be a direction Tank’s interested in really.

Tank owns a piece of the WBA thrown, so options are aplenty. Sitting back and waiting for the winner of Devin Haney and George Kambosos Jr. is the most sexiest. It would turn him from just, if you can say just; a three-division champion, into a possible undisputed champion. Which would be the likely outcome against either fighter. Haney may be perceived as “boring” but he has a classic skill-set. And for all of Kambosos’s grit that too wouldn’t be enough to stop Tank.

Davis just has too many weapons at his disposal, and only needs to connect once. He only landed 25 on Romero. And the left that ended it, Romero was drawn into. The uppercut to Cruz will forever be a boxing highlight.

There’s Lomachenko, and Ryan Garcia. And now with “RyGuy” under the tutelage of Joe Goossen that fight would no doubt be an offensive firefight. But it’s not likely that Garcia’s chin could handle a missile from this Tank. But there’s still another option, and it’s one that might be the road he takes.

Next Stop 140?

When it comes to Tank Davis and scales, there’s always a holding of breath. He cuts a lot. He’s small at lightweight, and at 5’5″, he’d be very undersized at super lightweight/junior welterweight. But, that size is what he’s always been. The question would be, how if at all would his power translate up a division, and could his chin handle those guys. No doubt he beats some, and has a tough time with others. But if he went up strategically the right way, the belts that Josh Taylor holds right now could be up for grabs. Which would keep Tank rolling on. If he rushed it, Taylor would outbox him for 12-rounds.
