UFC Vegas 63: UFC Apex; Las Vegas

It’s not close to the way this fight should have ended. Sports fans always talk about robberies. Well, those watching this card were robbed of what should have been a high octane main event. In fact, before the injury, the action was starting to pick up. Leaving a possible question on the doorstep of the UFC matchmakers, thanks to one of the combatants. Allen versus who for an interim strap.

Arnold Allen now finds himself after his TKO victory possibly flip-flopping rankings slots with Calvin Kattar. And with that, what should happen next at 145. In his first main event slot “Almighty” slid out of the way of a flying knee attempt by Kattar as the Boston native landed awkwardly popping his knee. Allen jumped on him hunting for an anaconda-choke. But the 34-year old survived the closing seconds of the opening round.

Coming into his corner he was asked about the knee and he kept saying “I don’t know”. But ever the warrior went back out. But not before referee Herb Dean wanted the cageside doctor to check it. Doing what anyone else in that situation would do Allen targeted it. A calf kick crumbled Kattar to the mat with Dean jumping in to stop the fight right there.

Allen Versus Who For An Interim Strap Has Interesting Possibilities

Knowing how much Dana White can’t stand tournament style contests, means we won’t be getting a mini grand prix at 145. So who fits? Josh Emmett besides Allen has the best streak going at the top of the division (he’s on a five-fight win streak); compared to Allen’s now 12 and 10 straight in the UFC.

And that is a fight that has fireworks written all over it. Allen said after the fight that Alexander Volkanovski wanted someone to make a statement, while he chases the lightweight title. And in fact Allen did that. His movement frustrated Kattar, and his lead left hand was absolutely pinpoint. Being that the battle didn’t take a lot out of Allen, he could be in for a quick turn around as well. So this could be added to the end of the year card.

The Team Alpha Male fighter is always up for a scrap, and has the wrestling skills to give Allen his first UFC loss. Even though his last three-fights have gone to the cards. His striking and overall game has become more sharp recently too. Plus at the age of 37, this might be looked at at the golden watch thank you for Emmett.

However Allen would have a decent reach and size advantage. But he’d also be a lot quicker too. Emmett’s chin isn’t what it once was so that left hand will test it over and over again.
