Could the New York Rangers be adding a sponsored jersey ad patch? Disguised as a fan survey with the reward of Rangers signed memorabilia, the Rangers had questions about their sponsors. Which ones do you recognize, and do you use them? The regular survey questions, but towards the end of the survey they ask a question that is the most interesting to Rangers fans. “If the Rangers were to include a sleeve patch featuring a brand on their jerseys in the upcoming season, how would that impact your perception of that brand?”

Marketing Dollars

In August 2021 with the NHL and the world recovering from the Covid-19 virus NHL Commissioner announced that for the 2022-23 season NHL teams can sell a 3-inch-by-3.5-inch space on their team’s sweaters. The NHL is allowing teams to place these ads in four spots on the jersey, left and right shoulders, and left and right chest. From the look for the Rangers question, they are exploring a shoulder ad. There are rumors of deals worth north of 10 million dollars for the ad space. This season will be the third year that teams have advertising on their helmets. Jerseys are just the next step.

Rangers have had Benjamin Moore as their helmet sponsor since the 2021-22 season

Who will be the sponsor?

It would not surprise me to see a gambling company. They have an unlimited marketing budget and every other commercial is either BetMGM or Caesers during games. I think Chase is an obvious choice, plus the colors match up well. Maybe Benjamin Moore doubles up and puts their logo on the jersey as well. I hate it. When I see jersey ads I think of minor leagues. To see storied franchises like the Montreal Canadiens wearing a blue RBC patch on their jersey just doesn’t look right. The worst one of them all so far is the Toronto Maple Leafs, who are sponsored by Milk.

Sounds Off

Let me know your thoughts. Do you like the patches? Do you hate them? Who do you think the Rangers will pick? As much as fans don’t want to see it, it is only a matter of time.
