As mentioned in previous articles, the New York Jets have been an easy mark for laughter on social media. This year, the script has flipped as the Jets have raced to a 4-2 record with their win over Green Bay. But social media can’t stop, won’t stop when it comes to the Jets because people just can’t help themselves. Sunday was no exception as another Internet rando tried to take the piss from the Jets. (Yes, I use British phrases. No, I won’t apologize.) This rando happened to go after the New York Jets draft class of 2022.

Who the Fook is This Guy?

The Internet rando who went after the New York Jets 2022 draft class was some guy named Kev Mahserejian. He’s a contributor at RotoBaller and he works behind the scenes at Fox Sports. He’s kinda like our Kev at Belly Up Sports, but unlike our Kev, I doubt people stay for the friendship after discovering his bad Twitter takes. I’m not one to stifle people’s speech. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and the free exchange of ideas makes our society great. But this take from today was – how can I put this as gently as possible – execrable.

That’s It. That’s the Tweet.

Without any research or defense of his hypothesis, Mahsejerian tweeted this last night about the 2022 New York Jets draft class. Take note: the NFL Draft was in late April. Today is October 17.

That’s it. That’s the tweet.

Naturally, both Jets fans and logical football fans alike came to the defense of this draft. But Mahsejerian wasn’t done, defending his “analysis” because reasons. In one reply, he had the unmitigated gall to compare them to the Carolina Panthers, whose ownership is currently test driving a Sherman-sized tank.

Mahsejerian should’ve just taken the L. But like most “pundits” on Twitter, they can’t help themselves trying to dunk on the Jets for a cheap tweet.

A Rebuttal

And now, a rebuttal, and a defense of the 2022 New York Jets draft class.

Cornerback Sauce Gardner was selected to shore up what was a leaky secondary. He’s an early Defensive Rookie of the Year candidate. Wide receiver Garrett Wilson is second on the team in receiving yards. Edge Jermaine Johnson missed this week’s game, but has 8 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, and 2 tackles for loss, more than draft contemporaries Kayvon Thibodeaux and George Karlaftis. Hardly a bust. Running back Breece Hall is in the top 15 in rushing, ninth in total yardage, and is coming off consecutive 100-yard rushing games. Until his injury, tackle Max Mitchell was the most pleasant surprise after being forced into a starting role. He committed only one penalty and allowed two sacks in 261 snaps. Defensive end Micheal Clemons blocked a punt which led to a scoop-and-score to put the Jets up two scores against Green Bay.

How – just HOW – has this been a garbage draft class? Because you disagreed with what general manager Joe Douglas and head coach Robert Saleh have been building? The audacity.

(Tight end Jeremy Ruckert has been injured and has not seen playing time yet. But I’m looking forward to seeing what he’ll do.)

Not the “Same Old Jets”

Some Cheese Sauce.

Many observers and pundits love the fact that the New York Jets have been so bad, and they want them to remain bad because it makes easy content. But the 2022 draft class of the New York Jets have put the league on notice that this isn’t the “Same Old Jets” we’ve all been used to. To his credit, Mahsejerian did save some face and said something nice today about the Jets.

Enjoy the attention you ordered, Kev.
