Well well well, we got the first college football playoff rankings this week. Some would say there were a lot of surprises just within the top five. The initial rankings had the Tennessee Volunteers ranked one followed by Ohio State, Georgia, and Clemson to wrap up the top four. Now we knew someone was going to be changing positions after this weekend. With that being said, I don’t know if we knew that numbers one, four, and six would all lose this weekend. This put into motion the early college football playoff chaos after only one poll is released.

The SEC East Started It

College football fans everywhere knew as soon as the ranking were released that someone within the top four was going to be changing spots. That is all thanks to the SEC east foes, Tennessee and Georgia. The first-ranked Volunteers took the trip south to Athens. Some were expecting the Volunteers to give the Bulldogs fits, and that did not happen at all. The Kirby Smart-led team had a game plan and executed it perfectly. I mean the college football playoff rankings probably didn’t help Tennessee either.

The defending national champions, playing at home and with a chip on their shoulder. They smacked the Volunteers in the mouth, holding the number one offensive team in the country to under three hundred offensive yards. The Bulldogs wanted some respect and made sure they got it all at Tennessee’s expense. The chaos wasn’t over yet though because kickoff for two more top-ten teams was about to happen.

Some Tigers Win, and Some Lose

It’s been an up-and-down season for both of these teams. Alabama lost earlier this year on a last-second field goal in Knoxville to the Vols. LSU, well yeah there are a few losses there that are self-explanatory but as of recently, these guys have gotten something rolling. However, no one saw an overtime victory against Alabama.

Now as for the other set of tigers in this conversation. The Clemson Tigers were playing an unranked Notre Dame team at home. Some would say this game should’ve been an easy win. It was far from easy Notre Dame absolutely shut down those early college football playoff hopes of the Clemson Tigers. Ending the first of I’m sure many chaotic college football weeks to come. The question is though, where is everyone going to be ranked when the committee drops the new polls?

Projected College Football Playoff Rankings

I mean yes I understand one, four, and six all lost. There are a lot of really good teams left to fill those spots. Number one is an obvious choice, in my opinion, barring the fact I’m a die heart UGA fan anyways. My predictions for tomorrow’s new college football playoff rankings.

  1. Georgia Bulldogs
  2. Ohio State Buckeyes
  3. Michigan Wolverines
  4. TCU Horned Frogs

These four are obvious choices as of right now. TCU has played four teams ranked in the top twenty-five alone and won all four of those games. Now Ohio and Michigan, well their schedules don’t exactly match up to the other two but they are undefeated for now until they play each other. So what do you think? Do you think we’ll see something pretty close to the above? Or do I have it completely wrong? Please feel free to let me know your college football playoff rankings in the comments below.
