Although there is still plenty of college football to be played, the College Football Playoff rankings seem to be more controversial than ever. It seems like no one knows who the top four teams are. That’s because, as of now, more than four teams deserve to play for the championship. It is unfortunate and unfair to the players. I am ready for the format change now, not in 2024 or 2026. Eventually, the format will change from four to 12 teams, and it seems like a no-brainer.

The bottom eight teams should not be eliminated from playoff contention. One loss should not determine a season, and neither should one win. I think the NCAA will benefit greatly from expanding the playoff.

After the LSU (10) vs. Alabama (6) game, it feels off to have neither team at least competing in the playoff. That game proved why a 12-team playoff will succeed. They are both great teams that could make a run in a playoff if they had the chance.

Too many great teams are being robbed of the chance to defy all odds and make a run at a national championship. At least for this year, It seems like four teams simply aren’t enough. Right now, it feels like whoever the fifth, sixth, and seventh seeds are at the end of the season will feel robbed of an opportunity.

For Now, It Is Just the Hard Truth for the College Football Players Onboard the Fifth-12th Ranked Teams

But being a player is one thing. How about the student sections? Can you imagine being the 12th seed that wins a National Championship for the first time? Now that is something that finally reflects the cost of college!

I think the format change will be great all around. Top recruits won’t feel pressured into going to Alabama or Clemson just to win a National Championship. Once the format is changed, I don’t believe it will take long for a team outside of the top four to win a National Championship.

Looking Forward

There is still plenty of football to be played, and maybe there will be an obvious top four teams by the end of it all.
