The NFL announced their players of the month, and the Seahawks shockingly dominated the list. Geno Smith won the NFC offensive player of the month, while rookies Tariq Woolen and Kenneth Walker won defensive and offensive rookie of the month. They won three out of four games and now sit atop the NFC West. Many have questioned how the Seahawks have managed to be as good as they are after trading away Russell Wilson, and now the answer is a tad clearer. Not only is Geno Smith playing out of his mind, but it appears the Seahawks’ 2022 draft was a hit.

The Seahawks currently sit at 5-3 with a very winnable game coming up against the struggling Cardinals.

I’ve given the Seahawks a lot of flack for winning games this year, which I will still continue to do, but today, I have to give head coach Pete Carroll and GM John Schneider their flowers. They went into free agency and the NFL draft with a plan, and it’s playing out beautifully. The Seahawks’ young offensive line continues to improve, Tariq Woolen looks like a steal, and Kenneth Walker may win offensive rookie of the year. After years of mediocre to below-average drafts by the Seahawks, they finally nailed one at the most crucial time. Though it’s not necessarily helping them tank for a franchise quarterback, it is helping establish a new culture.

In 2023 the Seahawks not only have their own draft picks, but they still have the Broncos’ first and second-round picks. Seattle may be too good for their own draft pick to remain in the top ten, but Denver may be bad enough to still supply them with one. The 2022 NFL season is still young with a long way to go, but the Seattle Seahawks’ future looks bright.

Growing up in a single-parent household came with its perks and downsides. Perk, I became very close to my mother. The downside, she wasn't a sports watcher. It wasn't until I was 15 years old that I was introduced to the world of sports/sports media. That's when I truly fell in love with it all. And it wasn't the X's and O's that won me over, it was the deep-rooted stories of the business, the athletes, and the ever so changing nature of sports that intrigued me. As a recent college graduate and Communications major, I hope to put my imprint on the sports media world.
