The year was 2015, the fourth trip to the Final Four in five years for the Kentucky Wildcats. Fans just knew it would be like this until Coach John Calipari retired. Then it was not like that. Fast forward to the present day, when not only is Kentucky Basketball struggling, they have become frustrating to watch. Coach Cal offered entertainment along with winning with his early Wildcat teams. Now he has fans wishing he would leave. Sadly, many people do not realize that what they seek is available down the road. EKU Hoops is what UK fans are looking for.

In 2018 Coach AW Hamilton was introduced at Eastern Kentucky University. The Georgetown, Kentucky native came to Richmond, Kentucky, with a motto: “The most exciting 40 minutes in sports.” The Colonels roster is living up to that motto this season. A roster with Kentucky-grown talents like Michael Moreno, Cooper Robb, Isaiah Cozart, DaShawn Jackson, and Turner Buttry. Hamilton has also brought in great recruits from high school with Leland Walker and Tayshawn Comer, and from the JUCO ranks in John Ukomadu. The team is rounded out by returning talent and transfers. EKU puts a product on the court that every fan will enjoy.

Up Tempo Offense

Coach Hamilton has his team playing a quick tempo, ball-moving, player-movement system that will hold your attention. The players have the green light to shoot, so you will see a ton of three-point attempts. You are guaranteed to see some high-flying dunks with Ukomadu and Michael Wardy on the court. Throw in some confident ball handlers, and the Colonels’ offense is exciting and complete.

Pressure Defense

AW Hamilton has leaned on Guard Cooper Robb to lead the way on defense. The defense presses, traps, jump passes, and with the addition of Isaiah Cozart, block shots. Watching EKU’s defense is just as fun as watching their offense. The players put forth so much effort on D, and the crowd rewards their efforts with support.

Passionate Fans

No one wants to attend a game when the fan base is passive. The fan base in Richmond, Kentucky, is incredibly passionate! Fans of all ages come and enthusiastically cheer on “their” Colonels. From super fans to alumni to kids, the arena loves EKU Hoops.

Affordable

I love to take my kids to ball games, but in most places you go, you have to save up to afford the tickets and concessions. EKU provides a quality product on the court without draining your bank account. Everything that UK fans want to see can be seen at EKU.
