It’s hard to believe I’m writing this, but the Seahawks are going to the playoffs! Against all the odds, the Seahawks made it to the postseason with a 9-8 record. The team picked by many, including myself, to be the worst in the league proved their doubters wrong. Geno Smith was a revelation, Seattle’s 2022 draft was a hit, and Pete Carroll proved his success was more than just Russell Wilson. Will they do anything in the playoffs? More than likely not, but it still feels sweet to have come this far.

I’ve stated this in other articles, but I wholeheartedly had my mind set on the Seahawks tanking for a quarterback. The last time we saw Geno Smith as a full-time starter was rather underwhelming. Given how horrid the Seahawk’s defense, offensive line, and playcalling had been, I didn’t picture this turning out well. However, I sit here, proud to admit that I was dead wrong about the 2022 Seahawks. They came together in the wake of Russell Wilson’s departure and showed guts, hearts, and a never quit attitude.

In the interest of full disclosure, I would be somewhat annoyed if the Seahawks missed out on having a top-five 2023 draft pick. However, thanks to the ineptitude of the Denver Broncos, the Seahawks get the fifth overall pick! I endured a lot of stress this season, but in the end, everything worked out.

The Seahawks 2023 Season

The Seahawks started the 2023 season with a massive home win against the visiting Broncos, led by ex-Seahawk, Russell Wilson. They followed that up with back-to-back losses, but by week nine, we were 7-2 atop their division. Geno Smith was playing out of his mind, and it felt like something magical was brewing in Seattle. The Seahawks lost five of their next six games and had lost control of their playoff destiny. They had to win their final two games and have some luck.

Luckily for the Seahawks, they won their final two games, and thanks to Matt Campbell’s Detroit Lions knocking off the Packers, the Seahawks backed their way into the playoffs. Now the Seahawks will head down the San Francisco to take on the 49ers during Super Wildcard weekend. I expect the Seahawks to get it handed to them and be a quick 1-and-done. By the off chance they wind up winning, it’ll be one of the most shocking upsets I’ve ever seen. In the end, I’m excited to see what the Seahawks do in the off-season and during the 2023 draft.

I don’t know how much longer Pete Carroll plans on coaching, but given the current trajectory of this team, the future is bright.

Growing up in a single-parent household came with its perks and downsides. Perk, I became very close to my mother. The downside, she wasn't a sports watcher. It wasn't until I was 15 years old that I was introduced to the world of sports/sports media. That's when I truly fell in love with it all. And it wasn't the X's and O's that won me over, it was the deep-rooted stories of the business, the athletes, and the ever so changing nature of sports that intrigued me. As a recent college graduate and Communications major, I hope to put my imprint on the sports media world.
