Myles Murphy draft scouting card (reference/term key under scouting notes)

Scouting Notes

  • Easily overpowers blockers and tosses them aside.
  • Murphy is very big, and has the ideal frame for an edge rusher.
  • Makes up for lack of bend and agility with a great swipe move to minimize the curve.
  • Elite instincts and natural football player, while also being a smooth mover in space.
  • Always has a plan, and is very quick to redirect when necessary.
  • Can “get skinny” with ease to slip through small holes his frame has no business getting through.
  • Relentless motor and excellent tackler.
  • Pass-rush move arsenal is practically non-existent.

Short Summary

Myles Murphy is an extremely polarizing prospect, who will garner lots of attention pre-draft. The raw tools are unmatched, and his potential is enormous, but there are plenty of concerns.

Murphy is a quick and explosive athlete with the perfect pass-rushing frame. He has amazing instincts and plenty of raw overpowering force. On the other hand, he isn’t overly agile, and his pass-rush arsenal isn’t impressive.

On the bright side, he is very young and has plenty of experience, so there is tons of room to grow. While agility is hard to improve on, with proper coaching he can certainly grow his technical capabilities.

His athletic abilities and elite talent make for a promising prospect with enticing potential. It would be hard for a player like Myles Murphy to completely bust, which makes him a high-floor-high-ceiling prospect. Those don’t last long in the draft. I expect Murphy to get selected early, and while I doubt he has immediate success, he should make a large impact in the NFL.

Scouting Card Key

  • Age refers to the age of the player come draft night, rounded to the nearest half-age.
  • Percentage numbers in the Player Info and Combine Stats sections – This refers to the percentile that number belongs to among all players at his position, going back nearly a decade.
  • GP – Games Played
  • TFLs – Tackles for Loss
  • FF – Forced Fumbles
  • Snap% – Percentage of team’s defensive snaps where the player was on the field.
  • PR Grade – Pass Rush Grade.
  • Missed Tackles and MT% – Missed tackle rate. Percentiles of these stats are inverse; the higher the number, the lower the percentile. Naturally, players with more playing time will rack up higher numbers, even in the rate category.
  • IDL Snap% – Percentage of snaps played on the defensive interior (between the tackles).
  • EDGE Snap% – Percentage of snaps played on the defensive edge (over or outside the tackle).
  • Reaction – Reactionary speed.
