Nitro Rallycross Alberta used a different race format on day two, why was this change made? Find out below.

How Was It Changed

Normally the second day of a Nitro Rallycross event would feature Group E Heats, Semifinals, Last Chance Qualifier and Final. This weekend it was different, however. As a Battle Bracket took place on both days one and two. Day two also saw the additions of a Consolation Final and Super Final.

Why Was It Changed

Why did Nitro Rallycross Alberta use a different format? Well, President of Nitro Rallycross Brett Clarke answered that question, stating the following. “Due to the unique chinook weather conditions that came in over the weekend and the resulting impact on the ice conditions. We needed to make adjustments to the format to ensure we put on not only a safe race for the drivers, but also a great show for the sold-out crowd in Calgary.”

No Points Awarded This Round

Unfortunately for the drivers, no points will be awarded for Nitro Rallycross Alberta. Nitro Rallycross President Brett Clarke also gave an answer as to why that is. With Clarke stating “We also made a decision, collectively between the teams and the series, that given the unique circumstances and the changes to the sporting format, that we would not be awarding points for this event.” Now, what do no points at this event mean for the Nitro Rallycross Final?
Well, the Nitro Rallycross final will take place at Glen Helen raceway on March 17th, 18th and 18th as a double header event. This was already a scheduled doubleheader as Nitro RX has already had to cancel two rounds this season. Those rounds were Nitro RX Finland and Nitro RX Saudi Arabia. Nitro RX has already done one doubleheader event this season at Nitro RX Arizona to make up for one of these rounds. Unfortunately there likely won’t be a makeup round for Nitro RX Alberta. Thus meaning the series will only have nine-point counting rounds instead of the originally planned 10.
