The Alabama Steel added its first win of the 2023 IAFLX season with a 24-6 takedown of the Alabama Silverbacks. The Steel, coming off a rough 0-2 start to the season, found its rhythm in week 3. The first points hit the board for Steel with 7:46 to go in the first quarter. A quarterback sneak for six, with wide receiver Lance Wesley adding on two more to make it 8-0.

Runningback Ricardo Windham put the pedal to the metal to put the Steel back in range in the second quarter, paving the way for a Willie Layton touchdown. Layton added insult to injury on the conversion, leaping over the D-line for two. The Steel hit the locker room up 16-0 at the half.

JaCoryan Rome picked the ball straight out of the sky in the third for the Steel, taking it all the way to the Silverbacks’ 2-yard line. Another touchdown ensued shortly after, with Layton adding two more on the conversion. The Silverbacks managed to find the endzone late in the third for six.

“We gelled together–– looking like the actual Alabama Steel, stood together as a brotherhood, had fun, and pulled out the win,” Layton said of the Steel’s win.

The Steel go into week four at number ten in the IAFLX power rankings.
