- Great blocker due to his size.
- Physical tools galore, but every skill aspect of the game is severely flawed.
- Hands aren’t reliable, but are strong and sticky. When he doesn’t drop the pass, his catches are clean and perfect.
- Seemed persistently lazy. Never ran, only jogged. Gave up on plays. Never seemed to put in the effort necessary to make an impact.
- No created separation at any point.
- Clearly a project.
Short Summary
Jonathan Mingo is an extremely intriguing prospect. At first glance, he looks like a man among boys. His massive size paired with his great agility, balance, speed, and quickness can give the impression of an elite prospect. However, those are the only things he has to offer, and he is borderline awful at every technical aspect of the game. His effort levels are a serious concern, and every detail of the position seems to be lost on him.
At the Senior Bowl, he showed good receiving ability, giving me some hope that maybe he’s closer to a skilled prospect than I thought. Still, it wasn’t enough to outweigh the uninspiring tape he put up.
Mingo can certainly be an elite NFL player, but he is a project, and his utter lack of technical ability will severely hinder him early on, and maybe forever.
Scouting Card Key
- Age refers to the age of the player come draft night, rounded to the nearest half-age.
- Percentage numbers in the Player Info and Combine Stats sections – This refers to the percentile that number belongs to among all players at his position, going back nearly a decade.
- Percentiles in the Advanced Stats portion for cumulative stats are snap-adjusted. In other words, naturally, a player with more snaps will allow more sacks.
- Drop% – Drop rate, or the percentage of overall targets that were dropped.
- CTT, CTC% – Contested Targets, Contested Catch Rate.
- Y/RR – Yards per route run.
- 1stD – Total 1st downs accumulated.
- Line-Wide, Line-Slt – Percentage of snaps lined up wide or in the slot.
- COD – Change of direction.

I honestly don’t know what kind of take this is. I’ve never seen an elite NFL player with an utter lack of technical ability.
