Tom Williams would, unfortunately, retire at the Rally In The 100 Acre Wood earlier this month due to a Mechanical issue. This would come after a battle for third overall and first in the RC2 class with Patrick Gruszka. Williams would end day one down 18.5 seconds on Gruszka. On the second day, Williams would take the class lead and third overall. Heading into SS16 with a 31.7-second lead on Gruszka. Unfortunately, a Turbo issue on transit between SS15 and SS16 would force Williams to retire.
What Was Williams’ Favorite Moment?
Tom Williams’ favourite part of the Rally In The 100 Acre Wood would be the technical narrow sections. As Williams Fiesta was working great and had great grip. Which would make it fun to drive.
What Was The Biggest Challenge Williams Faced At The Event?
Williams would find the wide high speeds sections of the event to be his biggest challenge. As you need good commitment within the section. The harder tire compound Williams used on Day One made it tricky to do so.
Did Williams Follow His Strategy Heading Into The Weekend?
No, Williams would change his strategy throughout the weekend. As he was surprised at how cold the windchill was. After losing time on the first day due to the wrong tire choice, as well as a loss of confidence. Williams would have to make some changes come day two.
Was Williams Happy With His Final Position?
Williams for good reason wasn’t exactly happy with his final position. As no driver likes to retire from an event. Especially when you’re in position for a podium finish. Williams was happy with his pace on the second day of the event, however.
What Was Williams Biggest Regret?
Williams biggest regret would be selecting the wrong tires on day one of the events. As Williams would select a harder tire compound. Which has its advantages and disadvantages. The biggest disadvantage is less traction. Therefore preventing Williams from going at a pace fast enough to compete with Gruszka, comfortably.
