Scouting Notes

  • Big and lumbering, Charbonnet is very hard to bring down.
  • Long strides lead to deceptive speed, has killer long-speed when he can build it up.
  • Lined up at receiver a bunch, but wasn’t targeted on those plays.
  • Great stutter move.
  • Surprising agility as a route-runner.
  • Slips through the smallest of crevices.
  • With his size and abilities, he is 3-down capable.
  • Impossible to stop within the 5-yard line.
  • Lacks high-end wiggle, agility or explosiveness.

Short Summary

Zach Charbonnet is a great Running Back, who checks practically every box in the scouting report. He is either good or great at everything. His size and speed make him a potential 3-down workhorse, and some of his traits can make him a real threat in the NFL.

It’s easy to fall in love with his abilities at his size, but the lack of agility and explosiveness are big red flags. There have been many Running Backs in Draft history who were big and fast but never succeeded in the NFL, and the cause was usually a lack of explosiveness or agility.

Zach Charbonnet would be best served as a scheme-specific role-player as a rookie, giving him the time to find his rhythm and his niche as a runner.
