The Colorado Rockies is finding their stride in May after a tough start to the 2023 season. They are hoping to build on a good couple of weeks and series wins.
The Rockies are off to a hot start in May with a .700 winning percentage that is tied for the second-best mark in baseball this month. They’re playing their best baseball all season with all aspects going well. There are plenty of factors that have helped the Rockies’ recent success including bullpen improvement and a better offense.
Colorado Rockies Hot May
The beginning of this nice stretch started in late April with a series win against the Guardians on the road. Colorado won six of seven games including salvaging their final game against Arizona. Then they swept the Brewers at home and took two of three from the Mets on the road. Also, they have won two series against the Pirates and Reds.
Despite a multitude of injuries to the rotation, the Rockies are getting great pitching performances. They are getting more quality starts. However, injuries are forcing them to make changes to rotation like adding Chase Anderson who they claimed from waivers. Colorado’s bullpen has quietly been one of MLB’s best. Jake Bird, Justin Lawrence, and Brent Suter have become reliable late-inning pitchers. This has been a nice change since the bullpen is always a struggle for Colorado.
Lineup Resurgence
Their pitching has been supported by a resurged lineup. The offense is giving more quality at-bats with timely hits. Elias Diaz is having an impressive first half of the season. He has been good at bringing in base runners and hitting some big home runs. Kris Bryant and CJ Cron chip in with their fair share. Also, Jurickson Profar has had a nice month batting .348 with five doubles, two home runs, and seven RBIs. Also, he had a 30-game on-base streak that leads MLB.
They lead the NL in runners in scoring position during this stretch and they have faced some tough pitchers. The Rockies have a good balanced lineup that if they remain consistent could have a lot of success. Their defense is also falling into place with players settling into positions. The outfield has been incredible making unbelievable plays. Therefore, fans should be excited to watch this team.
The Colorado Rockies is playing good baseball in May and hope it translates to the rest of the season. There is still plenty of baseball left to play so anything can happen. Stay tuned for more MLB news and notes.
