UFC London: O2 Arena; London, England

Doubt at some point always creeps into ones mind during a recovery from an injury. Almost a year ago the tenth-ranked UFC heavyweight was bitten by the injury bug. There had to be whether he wants to admit it or not a tiny question in the subconscious of Tom Aspinall. In the words of MORTAL KOMBAT it was a flawless victory for him. So, is Tom Aspinall past his hiccup.

For seven years now Marcin Tybura has been a perennially ranked fighter. He’s a well rounded fighter, but the 37-year old Pole does seem to lack something. And in his second-career main event; he fell right into a serious wood chipper.

The hometown fighter from the opening bell danced on his toes, moving side-to-side and in-and-out. While doing so he was striking with pinpoint accuracy. As well as landing a vicious body kick. All at least for this day squashing any question about his knee injury. A left-right combo floored Tybura as Aspinall jumped on him with ground-and-pound. Forcing referee MARC GODDARD to jump in just 73 seconds into the contest.

Tom Aspinall Past Hiccup Or Is He

Aspinall is averaging quick finishes. In his 13-wins he’s yet to go to the scorecards. So it appears in the words of CONOR MCGREGOR “the king is back”. But another super fast finish is a double-edged sword. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt wasn’t pushed or tested. So we don’t truly know can he go into deep waters, survive a tight knee bar, deal with multiple leg kicks to his lead leg and still remain standing. And the tip top of the division will truly test him and his knee. Over and over again.

Post fight he admitted to MICHAEL BISPING that it’s been a tough year, but he is different now than he was a year ago. He said he plans on going to Paris for Ciryl Gane and Sergey Spivak to get the winner, then it’s onto Jon Jones. Dana White might not like to always put the cart before the horse, but if reading the tea leaves; Aspinall may now have a flight to New York in November as the backup for the heavyweight title fight.
