UFC Singapore: Singapore Indoor Stadium; Kallang, Singapore

It might not be the fight that UFC fans are jumping up and down for at the moment. However, it is brewing none-the-less. A fourth fight will concievably have more on the line between Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway. Now that the smoke has cleared between Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier going at it for the BMF Title, it may not stay dormant for as long as it did the first time.

There is a scattering of fighters worthy to make a claim for that belt. But with “Blessed” and “The Great” at the top of their games right now, why not just throw the kitchen sink at the wall to see what happens. After a high paced back and forth fight between the 31-year old Hawaiian and Chan Sung Jung, it may as well be on people’s lips. And a fight with a pair of belts on the line could be a gold mine for the marketing team.

Between both Holloway and Zombie, half of their fights have been main-event slots. While the duo started conservatively for a couple of seconds, it didn’t take long for both to put their feet on the gas pedal. Holloway once again out paced an opponent, although not by as large a margin as usual. But it turned into a rock ’em sock ’em fight. A blitzing “Korean Zombie” got flatlined 23-seconds into round three, thanks to a clean counter right hand. Holloway then extended his win-streak to two.

Neither took a step backwards, and both chins were tested over and over again. Zombie’s career almost came to a close a round earlier after getting dropped by another clean right. But he survived the d’arce attempt by Holloway. But it was the second dropping that continued the list of retirees growing in 2023.

A Fourth Fight Will Be Different… Or Will It

Sometimes a fighter just has another’s number. And sometimes after a certain amount of tries, the script goes the other way. Holloway has been trying to get back the featherweight strap since the end of 2019. And all three loses to Volkanovski came on the scorecards. Although two were unanimous decisions, Holloway never got starched by Volkanovski.

The try of the Aussie to go up to lightweight again isn’t on the radar. Both champions have divisional business to take care of right now. So, if the Ilia Topuria fight isn’t finalized for Volkanovski, in Dana White‘s words “it’s the fight to make”. And should Topuria flip the UFC-universe and grab the featherweight stap, Volkanovski’s last fight in the division could be Holloway for the BMF. The dog they both have in them is worthy of that belt. And the time to see who is the next Bad M***er F***er is coming.
