MLB’s Most Disappointing Teams in 2023

There are some MLB teams that have been disappointing in 2023. They have underperformed despite high-salary rosters and big stars.

The Padres and Mets have been one of the most confounding disappointments in 2023. They have been outplayed after overspending to build all-star caliber rosters and look to miss the postseason. There are a few other teams that have been less than stellar this season.

Disappointing Teams in 2023

The Padres came into the season with high expectations that included being a potential contender for the National League pennant. They have been nothing close to that this year mostly due to injuries and poor performance. Currently, the Padres sit a couple of games below. 500 and fourth place in NL West. They have been outplayed by the other contenders.  On paper, San Diego has a good team with solid rotation and lineup but they have not played up to that.

The Mets are playing better with more wins in July than in June So their luck may be turning around but they still have ground to make up in the NL East. The Braves have a big lead and are playing like the best team in MLB. There have been many inconsistencies with both offense and defense.  Many miscues on defense and base runners left on have cost them games.

Other Disappointing Teams

There are other teams that have underperformed this season. Such as the New York Yankees who have been considered mediocre this year and could finish in last place for the first time in two decades. Despite all the star players, the Yankees have played below expectations in all aspects of the game.  The White Sox were projected to have a winning record or at least .500 baseball and fighting for a playoff spot. They have struggled in all aspects of the game and even found themselves as sellers at the deadline.

The St Louis Cardinals are on pace to do something they haven’t done in thirty- five years which is finish in last place. They have played some ugly baseball at times this year which is hard to believe considering all the talent on their roster. This team has struggled with pitching, defense, and inconsistent hitting. The Cardinals were expected to do big things this season but instead, it has been a big disappointment.

It will be interesting to see what these teams do this offseason and how they handle the disappointment.  Also, it is a lesson for other teams that spending a lot of money does not guarantee success. Stay tuned for more MLB news and stories.
