The Dallas Cowboys haven’t done a lot of things right in years. Whether it was missing the playoffs or falling short of expectations, not much success has come about for them.

However, the Cowboys did something this preseason that gave fans across the NFL something to smile about.

Giving Will Grier A Spotlight

The Cowboys’ quarterback room is set. Dak Prescott remains the starter, with Cooper Rush and Trey Lance backing him up. This meant it wouldn’t be necessary to keep Will Grier on the roster. The former West Virginia product was told he would be released after the preseason ended.

However, they wanted to give him one last shot to impress the other 31 teams looking for a backup. So, instead of not letting him play, they let him start and finish the team’s last preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Grier did nothing but show out for those watching. He completed 29 of his 35 pass attempts on Saturday, throwing for 305 yards and two touchdowns. The signal-caller also made plays with his legs, rushing for 53 yards and two scores.

With that performance, there’s no way he doesn’t get picked up by another team. Whether he’s on the 53 man roster or the practice squad, Grier deserves a shot somewhere.

So far, Grier has yet to throw a touchdown in a regular season game. Having four interceptions to his name, it’s not the prettiest way to start your NFL career. But, it’s all about bouncing back and showing you belong. For Grier, he showed out against the Raiders. A chance is all he needs to redeem himself.

Did He Have A Chance To Stay With Dallas?

No doubt. If it wasn’t for the Trey Lance trade with San Francisco, Grier’s performance would have kept him as the third quarterback for the Cowboys. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case. He will be missed in Dallas, as Dak Prescott recently said.

In the end, the Cowboys did right by Grier to give him a chance to play and show what he can do. For once, I can finally give props to Dallas. Other teams should follow their example.

The Cowboys have buried Grier behind Rush for 2 years despite Grier demonstrating superior abilities. Practice reps don’t demonstrate the leadership and command of an offense that Grier demonstrated in spades. He should be able to choose an option that gets him far closer to the field than the bench going forward. If Lance played and had a game like Grier, they would be calling it a QB controversy. Free Grier so he can go play the game he loves.

I love it!!! I hope he gets a chance to prove himself elsewhere (Tampa?)
