Craig Counsell has put together a successful career as the manager of the Milwaukee Brewers. Despite the team having a low payroll, he’s led Milwaukee to the postseason in four of the past five seasons. Counsell is currently poised to bring the club back to the playoffs after missing it last season. However, after this season, Counsell’s contract is up effectively making him available for any team to hire. Craig Counsell is the best manager money can buy.

Lead The Milwaukee Brewers To Unseen Heights

Craig Counsell has been the Brewers bench boss for the past eight seasons. He’s the longest-tenured manager in the National League and has the most wins by a manager in Brewers franchise history. Despite managing a team with one of the lowest payrolls in sport, Counsell has led the Brewers to the playoffs in four out of his eight seasons as the club’s manager. Counsell currently has the team in position to make a return to the postseason after missing it last year.

Surprisingly Never Won Manager Of The Year

Despite his accomplishments as the Milwaukee Brewers manager, Counsell has surprisingly never won the “Manager of the Year award.” He’s been a runner-up for the award three times. Counsell has helped lift Milwaukee to heights never seen by the franchise or its fans. This includes going to the postseason for four consecutive years from 2017-2021. He accomplished this despite the team having a low payroll. With Milwaukee in position for a return trip to the playoffs, Counsell might be able to finally win that elusive award.

Counsell is currently at the end of his contract. Counsell and the Brewers have kept his contract situation under the rug for most of the season. The Brewers obviously want him to be the team’s manager until he decides to hang up his spikes. Brewers owner Mark Anttanasio has made it clear that he is willing to do almost anything to keep him as Milwaukee’s skipper. However, Counsell opted to put his contract talks on pause so that he and the team can focus on the rest of the season.

Counsell is currently a lame-duck manager and if he decides to leave Milwaukee, he’ll have plenty of suitors. Many teams could be in the same situation the Cubs were in back in 2015 when Joe Maddon was shockingly available. Don’t be surprised if some teams opt to move on from their current managers to hire a skipper who’s accomplished as Counsell. The most important thing is all of Counsell’s teams always play hard. If a team is interested in accomplishing big things, Craig Counsell is the man to hire.

Counsell’s Team’s Always Have A Chance

Despite his team’s consistently having low payrolls, Counsell has accomplished a lot in eight years as the Brewers skipper. Under his leadership, the Brewers have gone from an afterthought in the National League to a playoff contender. While Milwaukee is going to do everything it can to retain Counsell, other teams are not going to pass up the opportunity to potentially hire him.
