With the NFL trade deadline approaching, it’s unlikely the New York Giants will be buyers. Instead, it’s more likely that they will be sellers and acquire draft capital. Here are my New York Giants trade deadline candidates.

Adoree’ Jackson, Cornerback

The former USC product has been a common player in trade talks with the Giants. A veteran presence, any team could use his services. Despite not having any interceptions this year, he’s been okay. Well, unless you’re a big Pro Football Focus like me. PFF has him with a grade of 40.5 this season, which is among the worst at the cornerback position.

Jackson committed a key pass interference penalty against the Jets, which allowed them to move closer and kick the game-winning field goal in overtime. Not the best way to impress the other teams in the NFL with interest in you.

However, it was not too long ago when Jackson looked like a solid CB1. 2021 saw him rack up eight pass deflections and an interception. He’s never been a huge interception guy, but allowed quarterbacks to complete just 52% of their passes when targeting him. Also, quarterbacks had a rating of 69.0 in 2021 when throwing his direction.

Those numbers have increased now, to the point where opponents aren’t scared to throw his way. But, the right team could look at his past and see the potential in him to take a chance. He’s still 28 years old, so the Giants should get a solid return (third or fourth-round pick?)

Leonard Williams, Defensive Tackle

“Big Cat” has just 1.5 sacks through seven games this season. Since his 11.5 sack season in 2020, he only has nine in the past two seasons.

It’s not to say that he is a bad pass rusher. He’s formed a solid duo with Dexter Lawrence on the defensive front. A 67.6 PFF grade so far ranks him among the above-average group at his position. However, his expiring contract this year makes him a possible trade candidate.

New York would free up about $18 million by trading him (according to OvertheCap) this year. Still just 29 years old, he is still in his prime and could serve as an excellent defensive lineman for a contender.

Parris Campbell, Wide Receiver

Signed by the team this offseason, Campbell has been an afterthought in this offense. He has not appeared in a game for the third straight week.

Even when he was on the field, he did not produce. Thought to be a key slot receiver for New York, he has just 16 catches for 85 yards on the year. Campbell has yet to surpass more than 24 yards in a game this year.

With Wan’Dale Robinson emerging as the better wideout and the Giants set with Darius Slayton and Jalin Hyatt on the outside, Campbell is expendable. He had a career year last season in Indianapolis, and they could bring him back. Other teams could trade for him and utilize him more (and possibly better) than the Giants are.
