Since the 2015 season, the Houston Astros have had a great run. They’ve gone to the playoffs eight times, won the AL West six times, and have won the World Series twice. Houston has also gone to the ALCS an impressive seven straight times. However, Astros fans seem to not know the difference between being a dynasty and having a successful run. Although Houston has had a lot of success in recent years, they are not a dynasty.
The Word Dynasty Is Often Misused
The term “dynasty” is often misused by sports fans everywhere. Some people believe that a team is a dynasty when they go to the postseason multiple times in a decade. However, they couldn’t be more wrong. For a team to call itself a dynasty, it must win at least three championships within the same decade. Simply going to the playoffs or a championship series isn’t enough to earn the prestigious title of dynasty!
Houston Has Had A Great Run But They Are No Dynasty

They’ve won six division titles in the past seven years, gone to the ALCS seven straight times, and have captured two World Series championships. The Astros’ seven consecutive appearances in the championship series are one short of the record set by the Atlanta Braves. While these accomplishments are impressive, this does not make Houston a dynasty.
The Astros don’t meet the requirement of winning three championships within the same decade. One of those championships will forever be scrutinized by everyone except Astros fans due to Houston cheating to win it. During their run, Houston only has a record of 4-3 in the ALCS and they also are 2-2 in the World Series. Numbers like those don’t give Houston the right to call themselves a dynasty. I think the fans are over-embellishing what the Astros have really accomplished. After all, nobody remembers who the loser was in the championship game.
Houston Is The Better Version of the ’90s And Early 2000s Atlanta Braves teams

Like those Braves teams, the Astros dominate their division, have many future hall-of-famers on the roster, and won four pennants, but they’ve only won two World Series rings. While the Astros have had an impressive run, nobody should mistake them for a dynasty.
Calling The Astros A Dynasty Would Be Unfair To The Teams That Earned The Title
Embed from Getty ImagesIf we were to call the Astros a dynasty, we’d be doing an injustice to the teams that earned the title. For example, the Baltimore Orioles appeared in five championship series during the 70s, winning three of them and capturing one World Series title. During the 90s the Blue Jays went to three championship series as well, winning two of them. Toronto also captured back-to-back World Series titles in 1992 and 1993. However, nobody is talking about those two teams being dynasties. With that, the Houston Astros shouldn’t be treated any differently.
There is no doubt that the Astros’ recent run of success is impressive. Going to the ALCS seven straight championship series and winning two World Series titles isn’t an easy thing to do. The Astros have had numerous opportunities over the years to earn that prestigious title, but they couldn’t get it done. Simply going to many championship series and only winning two championships doesn’t warrant calling the Astros a dynasty.
