Finally. The wait is over. After many interviews, the New York Giants have found their new defensive coordinator. The events that took place between Wink Martindale and Brian Daboll can finally be thrown out the window. Daboll will be working with a new man now.

Big Blue decided that former Titans defensive coordinator Shane Bowen would be the right man for the job. Out of the eight candidates that interviewed with Daboll, he was the most experienced at the position. At just 37 years old, he is one of the youngest coordinators in the league.

  • Bowen attended the University of Georgia Tech
  • Giants took their time (clearly) to find the right man for the job. Finally, the Martindale saga is over.
  • According to SNY, the team was impressed by communication skills, intelligence, and fundamentals.
  • The Titans finished no worse than 11th in scoring defense twice during his time there.
  • Tennessee was also the league’s best red zone defense in 2022 and 2023.
  • New York will continue to run the 3-4 defense under Bowen.
  • Before serving as defensive coordinator in Tennessee, he was outside linebackers coach for the Titans.
  • Served as a student/graduate assistant at Georgia Tech from 2009-2011 and at Ohio State in 2012.
  • Linebackers coach at Kennesaw State from 2013-2015.
  • Defensive assistant for the Houston Texans in 2016 and 2017.
  • 2018-2020: Outside Linebackers coach for the Titans.
  • 2021-2023: Defensive coordinator for the Titans.

This move continued the turnover of the coaching staff. It was an abysmal 2023 for the Giants. Change was needed and it happened. The question is: will Daboll and Bowen be able to work together after what we saw with Martindale? It remains to be seen.
