The Cowboys are Southland Conference Champions and dancing for the first time in 22 years after defeating Nicholls. This year was special for the Cowboys. They broke a bunch of school records including wins with 30, home wins with 18, and road wins with 11.

Last year, McNeese finished with an 11-23 record, making this year’s turnaround one of the biggest in the history of college basketball.

They have received votes for the AP top-25 poll for the first time in program history and enter the tournament riding an 11-game win streak.

Ahead Of March Madness, McNeese Is On Upset Watch

Like the Cougars, I think McNeese could upset a more known program in this year’s bracket. Unlike the Cougars who fought through overtime to secure a conference championship, the Cowboys had a dominant victory. The championship game ended with a final score of 92-76.

There is nothing fun about betting on the favorite.

McNeese Odds to win the National Title stand at +30000.

Lastly, Will Wade deserves a lot of credit. This was his first season as the Cowboys Head Coach. Wade has coached many teams to a tournament berth and was a part of VCU’s trip to the final four back in 2011. From 2017-2022 he coached the LSU Tigers.

He earned himself the Southland Coach Of The Year award for 2024 and a Southern Conference coach of the Year in 2014, with Chattanooga.
