I may not be the most knowledgeable soccer analyst. But, even the average person knows when a so-called “rivalry” isn’t a rivalry when a team hasn’t lost to the other in four years. The USMNT continues to dominate their rivals in Mexico, winning the CONCACAF Nations League for the third straight year. Thanks to a 2-0 win, the Red, White, and Blue hoisted the trophy once again on Sunday.
No matter what, the United States continues to dominate Mexico in the game of soccer. Here’s how it all went down.
No Goals… Until Just Before The Half
Out of the 11 shot attempts the United States took, none of them hit the back of the net until…

If Mike Breen had commentated on this game, he would’ve gone “BANG, BANG, BANG! OH WHAT A SHOT FROM ADAMS!” Sorry, different sport I know. But, boy, did Adams shoot that from deep and hit the corner of the goal with ease. Not known for being a scorer, it was nice to see Adams get one especially after being out with injury for so long.
Adams did depart coming out of halftime, but he made his presence felt in this game.
Another Goal, From Someone Who Deserves It
Every single player on the United States deserves to score a goal. But, no one needed it more than Gio Reyna. The young star was known for his controversy with current coach Gregg Berhalter, after he was rarely played during the 2022 World Cup.
Regardless of that, he had a chance to show the world he deserves to get more playing time. The man plays for Borussia Dortmund for a reason, right?

For a casual like myself, I honestly prefer listening to and watching Spanish broadcasts compared to English. But, regardless, Reyna’s goal was huge as he continues to show why he’s a star in the making. With two assists in the semifinals and a goal in this game, he won the Best Player award for the tournament without question.

They’re good, now.
As for Mexico…
Mexico had nine shot attempts, including two on goal. But, they made none of them thanks to the play of goalkeeper Matt Turner. Granted, most of Mexico’s shots were off-target. But, Turner made the saves that mattered.
In the end, the USMNT came out on top of the CONCACAF Nations League once again. Even if the tournament may not mean much to some, it does to a whole lot of other people. Even if some fans don’t like that their team loses and takes things too far, there’s one solution: make better decisions for the team, Mexico. Maybe then, just then, will you be able to defeat the USMNT in soccer.
