After the A’s announced they were moving to Sacramento for the 2025-2027 seasons, they began their six-game road trip in Detroit. The Tigers awaited their presence and greeted them with a 5-4 win. This is Oakland’s fourth loss in a row.

Both starting pitchers put up similar stat lines. Oakland’s JP Sears went 5 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on six hits. As for the Tigers, Trevor Skubal allowed four runs on four hits, striking out nine batters in 6 1/3 innings.

After down 3-0 through five innings, Oakland managed to score two runs in the top of the sixth. Brent Rooker got it started with a two-run home run.

Then, once Detroit scored a run at the bottom of the sixth, the A’s scored two more runs in the top of the seventh to tie things up.

Unfortunately, things unraveled for the A’s at the bottom of the eighth. Lucas Erceg came in for another relief appearance. But, he allowed Spencer Torkelson to reach on a double right away. Then, after striking out two batters, he would face Gio Urshula.

That was the only run he allowed. But, it was the deciding one as Oakland failed to stage a comeback in the top of the ninth to lose 5-4. The Tigers improved to 6-1 on the year.
