PFL 1 2024 Regular Season: Boeing Center; San Antonio, Texas

And we are now officially underway with the brand new looking PFL since they acquired Bellator. While they did have the champs versus champs card in Saudi Arabia, this is more what the company will look like for the near future. And it was a big night for Russians as TEAM Fedor Emelianenko went 4-4. And it was capped off by former Bellator champion Valentin Moldavsky starching Mirko Filipovic pupil, 2022 PFL champion Ante Delija.

What started out as a pair of patient fighters not wanting to make a key mistake changed quite quickly. The 33-year old Croatian started to throw leather that was countered by Moldavsky. A body kicked that didn’t seem to be something serious was the beginning of the end for Delija.

He was then on his heels, back peddling to the fence line. Moldavsky seizing the moment started to mix up the overall attack. And with Delija fading at the cage referee JACOB MONTALVO jumped in at the 2:17 mark in that opening frame to stop the action. With the victory it puts the 32-year old Russian in first-place in the standings with six-points.

Big Night For Russians But How Many More Will They Have

There are few coaches that are as beloved as Emelianenko is. And his stable of amazing and serious talent continues to grow like a fungus on a tree. Between the hard camps of striking and sambo training, by the time the end of the season rolls around, they might be holding multiple belts.

And at heavyweight it might come down to an all out FEDORTEAM battle royal. Between Moldavsky, Denis Goltsov, and Oleg Popov it’s a hard call to see who’d have a distinct edge. However, Goltsov does have the better chin and hits the hardest. But Moldavsky has the faster hands and is better on the mat.
