The MLB trade deadline 2024 is fast approaching with less than a week remaining. This is usually when all the action happens as teams solidify their rosters whether they are buyers or sellers.

The trade deadline has been interesting because no one knows who is available to buy this year. There are a lot of teams that have a chance at this point in the season and it could make things complicated at the deadline. Here is a look at what is going on ahead of the trade deadline.

There could be fewer teams this year that are considered sellers. The only five teams out of contention right now are the Oakland Athletics, Miami Marlins, Colorado Rockies, Los Angeles Angels, and Chicago White Sox. These teams could all be sellers this year though the Rockies are not expected to trade any star players.

The White Sox are expected to deal their ace Garrett Crochet to a contender. They are currently in rebuild mode with the worst record in MLB. Also, the Diamondbacks and Cardinals could look like sellers as they are struggling a little bit. It will be fun to see if any teams make any last-minute blockbuster trades.

Teams like the Mariners, Padres, Yankees, and Dodgers look to be the most aggressive buyers at the deadline. The Dodgers, after spending over a billion dollars this winter, know that anything less than a championship could be considered a failure. The Yankees and Padres want to shore up their teams for a big run.

The Mariners have a scary good rotation that will be tough to beat but they need a premium bat. Also, the Red Sox and Guardians could be buyers at the deadline since they are in the playoff mix. This season the problem will be that there are no Cy Young-type pitchers that teams are willing to trade for. The hitter’s market is not any better unless the Blue Jays decide to trade Valdimir Guerrero Jr.

There will still be plenty of action in the next week but little sizzle. Baseball may see fewer blockbuster trades soon. Stay tuned for more MLB news and stories.
