In the NFL, there is no scarcity when it comes to talented players. Each team has a unique set of players who are the best at what they do. When it comes to wide receivers there are a few teams that have an embarrassment of riches. Some teams have two or three players that could emerge as their teams best wideout. I am going to take a look at some of these players who have the ability to become the one, even with superstars right beside them.
Devonta Smith
Devonta Smith has been on most radars for some time now. Last year I thought there was a chance he could surpass AJ Brown as the Eagles one, and there were some games that he did.
He has made some elite plays in his three seasons, surpassing 1000 receiving yards in back to back years. Last season he and AJ Brown both scored 7 touchdowns, so the gap between the two wasn’t as far off as one might think.
Jaylen Waddle
Another player that comes to mind with this concept is none other than Miami’s Jaylen Waddle. Both Waddle and Tyreek Hill have been the most exciting players on the field, at times. Whether Tyreek is throwing up deuces or Waddle is doing his signature celebration dance, this duo is one of the best in the league and I think there’s a chance for Waddle to take charge and become their one.
Last year wasn’t close between the two, Hill was in a category of his own, nearly going for 1800 receiving yards and being voted the number 1 player in football by his peers.
Jameson Williams
Jameson Williams has had a slower start to his NFL career but that only sets the stage for a super bloom. I think Williams has the ability to become the Lions #1 as well. He was drafted as the 12th-overall pick back in 2022 and hasn’t had the chance to compete for an entire season yet.
Tre Tucker
Tre Tucker is a name not as solidified as the ones I’ve mentioned previously but he does sit in a similar spot. He is a young & talented player, running routes alongside a great. Having Devante Adams take the number one corner will open the field up even more for Tucker, who has shown that he is capable of making plays in many different ways.
I think he will surpass Jakobi Meyers and become the number two for the raiders while having a few games as the one. Tucker is one of my favorite breakout players heading into this season and head coach Antonio Pierce apparently feels the same way.
