The Auburn Tigers claimed their reign for having the longest active home winning streak after Gonzaga took a shocking loss to Loyola Marymount last Thursday. Going into last night’s matchup against Texas A&M, the Tigers were the proud owners of a 28-game winning streak in Neville Arena, nicknamed “The Jungle.” As we’ve learned in recent years, The Jungle is arguably one of the toughest environments to be a visitor in. The Tigers haven’t given up a loss in Neville since losing to Florida in February of 2021.
Unfortunately for the number 15 Tigers, A&M wanted no part of being the next Jungle casualty. The Aggies took down the Tigers with a 79-63 final. Auburn came out in true Auburn fashion, throwing the first punch with a 10-0 run to start the half. Auburn wouldn’t hold on to the run, however, with A&M going on a 13-2 run before the half to hit the locker room up 15.
The Jungle Gently Weeps
The Aggies’ Tyrece Redford led the night with 30 points and nine rebounds. Wade Taylor IV added on another 15 of his own for the Aggies. Auburn’s usual suspects, Johni Broome and Wendell Green, Jr., tapped in with 16 points apiece, but the Tigers’ 14 turnovers on the night didn’t help their case. Those turnovers proved costly for Auburn, resulting in 18 points for A&M.
Texas A&M improves to 6-1 in SEC play, their only loss courtesy of Kentucky, and 16-4 on the season. The Aggies take on Vanderbilt Saturday at home. Auburn sits at 6-2 in the SEC and 16-4 on the season. The Tigers get an SEC break and hit the road to take on West Virginia for an early Saturday tipoff.
