The Masked Singer did not air this week due to the MLB World Series, so it is a good time for a midseason recap of season 12.
Season 12 has been one of the best seasons yet, with many talented singers. The viewers have already seen the first two groups of contestants. There have been some amazing performances and huge reveals. The second half of the season looks to bring plenty of action.
Season 12 Midseason Recap
Standard code Embed from Getty ImagesThe premiere episode saw five contestants take the stage with fun performances and intriguing clues with the new format. Group A was introduced as Ship, Buffalos, Showbird, Leaf Sheep and Woodpecker. Therefore the first contestant revealed was Leaf Sheep who turned out to be NFL Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway. He is one of the biggest sports stars the show has had so far.
The show celebrated the 40th anniversary of the beloved movie Footloose a couple of weeks ago. The contestants paid tribute to the iconic soundtrack that made the film a cultural phenomenon. The Showbird revealed herself as actress Yvette Nicole Brown. It’s amazing how many popular songs came from that movie that contestants sang.
The three Group A finalists opened the finals with a superstar performance of “ High Hopes” by Panic at the Disco. This was followed by some amazing renditions of songs near and dear to the contestants. The panelists had a hard time guessing who these contestants were. A double elimination followed, with Woodpecker revealed as Marsai Martin and Ship as Paula Cole.

Standard code Embed from Getty ImagesThe show celebrated everything sports during its first Sports Night. Group B was introduced this week including Chess Piece, Dust Bunny, Bluebell, Wasp, and Goo. Some songs featured were “Sweet Caroline, “Loose Control” and more. This was one of the coolest theme nights so far this season. The Dust Bunny had everyone fooled and finally revealed themselves as comedian Andy Richter.
Last week, Group B took the stage for a second time for Barbie Night. There were some good performances and interesting clues. The Chess Piece turned out to be actress Lavern Cox. This was another contestant the panelists had a hard time identifying. Group B has some of the best talent, and Wasp and Goo could both be contenders.
Tune in next week as the show returns for the Group B finals. It will be ’60s theme night and a double elimination unless the panelists use their save which is likely to happen. Group C will also be introduced during the second half of the season. The Masked Singer airs Wednesday at 7/8 c on Fox or stream it on Hulu the next day.
