America’s most hated Power 5 conference has been officially declared dead. R.I.P. It was reported this weekend that both USC and UCLA suffered from the worst attendance either team has seen in over 21 years. (Granted, the World Series was playing about 10 miles away) USC and UCLA have been staples in the in the Pac-12 over the years and both have faded into the background.
The Pac-12 is hanging onto the days of Reggie Bush and the glory days of USC. Look at this guy:
This is Your Best Team?
Washington State soared in the rankings this weekend up to #9 in the polls. This is the scene from Stanford on Saturday:
YIKES. That’s supposed to be you’re #1 represented team in the league? Pitiful.
Two Ranked Teams?
Remember when Washington cracked the top five earlier this year? The #15 Huskies lost in a barn burner 12-10 to California on Saturday.
Kevin Sumlin’s miserably bad Arizona team made #19 Oregon look like they belonged in a different universe.
#15 Utah is managing to bail them out, without playing a ranked team and still getting a two touchdown smack-down by Washington. Not a fan of the transitive property, but Utah beat Northern Illinois by the same amount that Florida State did. That’s your second best team in the Pac-12 folks.
If it wasn’t for the Pac-12 then there wouldn’t be any football to watch until 2:30 am every Saturday so be thankful for that. However, none of these teams this year could even think about sniffing a title or even a playoff berth. That’s a huge problem.
Prayers Up For The Cougars
The #8 Washington State Cougars were ranked higher than most college football analysts have predicted. However, barring a total collapse by everyone else in front of them, the Cougars don’t stand a chance to make the playoffs. Once the final four is set in stone, Michigan will be in at the last spot and move Notre Dame to the #3 spot.
Marcus Mariota at Oregon and the beat-down that they gave Florida State during the first College Football Playoff was the last time the Pac-12 showed any promise of winning a national title. Washington gave an abysmal performance and showed their weaknesses as the winner of the conference in 2016. The days of the Pac-12 and SEC clashing it off to win the title look to be over, for now. Regardless of lousy performances, the conference of champions is still producing pro-level talent as were seeing in the west-coast rookie darlings (Sam Darnold and Josh Rosen)
All in all, thank you for the midnight kickoffs. We will always be thankful for that.
