On Thursday, the Washington Redskins District of Columbia R-Words announced they would be known as the “Washington Football Team” for the 2020 season. After a reactionary backlash, the franchise announced today that they would change their name again and be known as, “Washington Team Football.” Their statistical abbreviation will be ‘WTF.’

Brand Change

Recent events in the United States prompted corporate sponsors to pressure (or bully, depending on your perspective) owner Dan Snyder to change the “R*dsk*ns” name. After years of defiance, Snyder released a statement that the franchise would review the team’s name. On Thursday, the franchise announced the team would, for the 2020 season, be named the, “Washington Football Team.”

Reaction to the team name has been, as one would expect- mixed. Players on the newly named franchise were in support of the change. Other athletes, including some rando basketball player named LeBron James, chimed in as well.

Fan Reaction, Though…

Fans, however, have panned the name, especially those in the Washington District of Columbia area. So, after further consideration, the franchise has rebranded once again to Washington Team Football.

“It’s aptly named WTF, because that’s been my reaction whenever they take the field since Snyder’s bought the team,” said lifelong R-Words fan Gary Colbert.

“Dammit, I just donated all of my R*dsk*ns gear to the Salvo,” said Wash – er, DC resident Mike Carmel. “I just ordered my Washington Football Team gear to replace it. And now I gotta order more gear? WTF?”

Helmet Design Leak

The formerly known as Washington Football Team already released its new helmet and uniform design, but the new helmet design has been considered problematic. Word is that the helmet design has been leaked and Texas A&M University will sue the… whatever the franchise is called now. Take a look and judge for yourself: is it a rip-off?

In other DC-based sports news, the NHL’s Washington Capitals have announced they will rebrand as Washington Team Hockey. Their statistical abbreviation will be ‘WTH.’
