TAMU vs. BAMA (-26)

As much as it pains me to see Jimbo Fisher firing on all cylinders with the underwhelming talent he was given at Texas A&M…the Aggies are officially my Dog of the Weekend. Yes, I am fully aware that Alabama is currently beating teams by an average margin of 47.3 points. Yes, I am fully aware that they are putting up almost 40 POINTS in the first half of every game. But BAMA is not playing a worn down Arkansas State or an atrocious Ole Miss program this weekend. Before everyone floods my DM’s calling me an absolute moron, there are plenty of factors that come into play on Saturday.

Quick TAMU Stats:

  • 6-1 against the spread in their last 7 games. (3-0 on the year)
  • Covered a 12 point spread against the defending National Champions.
  • 4-1 ATS in their last five road games.

Quick BAMA Stats:

  • 1-4 ATS in their last five conference games.
  • 1-4 ATS in their last five games at home vs. ranked opponents w/ winning road record.

Counter-Stats:

  • Home team is 4-1 ATS in their last five meetings. (In this case Alabama)
  • Historically, TAMU is 20-47-1 ATS in road games vs. teams w/winning record.

While some may view these points as an elementary statistical analysis, this will more than likely be the only time I will take the dog against the Crimson Tide all season. Don’t get me wrong, the 12th man definitely played a big factor in A&M’s near victory versus Clemson earlier this season. However, Jimbo Fisher is one hell of a ball coach and has consistently proved that throughout his career. It has come as a big surprise to many college football fans how quickly Fisher has come in and changed the culture surrounding TAMU football. Especially considering the below average draft class that the Aggies received this fall.

Coming into Saturday’s biggest game, Coach Fisher is a well vetted coach with a team who is all in on his philosophy. This is arguably the biggest game of the year for him to prove his worth in the SEC. Do I think that they will win this game straight up? Absolutely not. But to think that Jimbo is going to establish himself as Nick Saban’s little brother for the next ten years is just simply inaccurate.  However, a four touchdown beatdown will definitely do the trick.
