Short Summary

John Michael Schmitz is a good all-around player, and if you look at the “What Does an Offensive Lineman Need To Do” textbook, he does everything right. That’s probably the result of his high PFF grade. However, when you watch the tape, all he’s doing is going through the motions. He seems to put no effort or force into his block attempts, and he hardly ever moves any defenders as a result. Either that or he truly lacks any pro-level power, which is even more concerning.

Aside from that flaw, he is a good and polished prospect. I don’t see a high ceiling for him, but his floor can be very high. He just needs to get this thing figured out. I wouldn’t be surprised if a coach can unlock his toughness and force, but until that happens, he could be a real liability.
