The Alabama Steel hit the road Saturday in a divisional matchup against the Alabama Bandits… and they did just that. The usual suspect Willie Layton started it off for the Steel on a touchdown run with just under 7:00 in the first. After a fight with the Bandit defense, quarterback Justin Beck found Deshawn Moore for a 50-yarder to put up six more for the Steel. Adding to that, Layton found the endzone once again on the conversion for two more, giving the Steel a comfortable 14-0 lead to end the first.
In what was a back-and-forth defensive showdown, Steel linebacker Charlie Powell snuck in and picked him one in the second quarter. One of four interceptions on the day for the Steel. Powell gained 25 yards on the interception and Beck found Moore for 20 yards. The drive ended with another Layton touchdown to put the Steel up 20-0. The Bandits retaliated and got through the Steel defense late in the second to cut the lead to 14.
