To put it bluntly, Patrick Mahomes is incredible. The Texas Tech product has been, by far, the best Quarterback in the NFL through the first 4 weeks. His first three games were against the Chargers, Steelers, and 49ers, all resulting in wins and big games by Mahomes. However, week 4 against the Broncos was a different challenge. He had not faced a stout defense yet, and because of that, people doubted he would be able to keep up the same level of play. He answered by throwing for 304 yards, with two total touchdowns. This kid is the real deal guys.

So far this season….

Mahomes has passed for a solid 1,200 yards, good for eleventh in the league, for now. He’s thrown 14 touchdown passes, which is best in the league by a decent amount. He’s thrown 0 interceptions through 4 games, ZERO. The only other starting Quarterback in that company so far is one Drew Brees. Ever heard of him? Pretty good right? He has a 126.5 QBR, which is second in the league among qualified Quarterbacks. The team he’s leading, the Chiefs, are also 4-0 under Mahomes. His two main targets are Tyreek Hill, and Travis Kelce. Other than those two, his receiving core is on more of the lackluster side than any other. One of the most important reasons for the success of Mahomes is the fact that they have a strong running game. If Kareem Hunt wasn’t a thing, he would have a lot tougher of a time whizzing the ball around the field like he does. However, Hunt and Mahomes complement each other extremely well.

Big Play Capabilities

In the picture above, Mahomes scrambles two different ways to get away from San Francisco defenders before throwing  dart to a wide open Tyreek Hill in the corner of the end zone. Just last week, in a victory over the Broncos, Mahomes rolled out to his left with Bronco defenders on his tail. He had Tyreek Hill open of course, but did not have the time to come all the way back across his body to throw the ball. Instead, deciding to throw a pass with his LEFT HAND. Let me remind you that Patrick is strictly RIGHT HANDED. He completed the pass by the way; now he has more left handed completions that right handed interceptions on the year. For all my right handed people out there like myself, have you tried throwing a football with your left hand just standing still? We look stupid and the ball never hits our target. Well, try throwing left handed while running away from 6-foot 300+ pound linemen.

What’s His Potential?

Maybe this upcoming week Mahomes will look human finally against an incredible Jacksonville defense. So far this season, he’s telling us that it’s not a matter of if he can win a Super Bowl. Instead, it’s a matter of when will he win a Super Bowl. Patrick has only scratched the surface this season. When the likes of Tom Brady, Drew Brees, and Aaron Rodgers retire; it’ll be his league for a long long time to come.
