MLB season is winding down and the postseason is approaching. This is the current MLB playoff picture and certain scenarios.
At this point there are several teams that have already been eliminated, 14 teams in both leagues have been eliminated from their respected divisions. Here are some scenarios and how the postseason picture looks at this point in time.
The New York Yankees currently lead the AL East needing only 9 wins to solidify the division. Also, the Yankees are trying to gain control of home-field advantage for the playoffs. The Twins are leading the Cleveland Indians with a 4 game lead in the AL Central. The Astros have an 8 game lead in the AL West.
In the National League, there are few division battles. The Cardinals have taken over the NL Central with a 4 game lead over the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs recently lost Javier Baez to injury and that could hurt them in the end.
The Dodgers could be the first to clinch a playoff spot only needing two games to take the NL West. It seems like it would have been an uphill battle for the other teams in the division to catch the Dodgers. The Braves have 9.5 game lead over the Nationals in the NL East and they look to take it this year.
The Rays and Athletics have the two wild cards in the AL. They look to be the top two teams to win the wild card as the season winds down. The Nationals and Cubs have the wild card spots but that could change. Keep an eye on these wild card races as they heat up in the final weeks.
