The Milwaukee Brewers recently clinched a spot, they look to be the real deal.
The odds were against them early considering their struggles, but they managed to find a way to pick up the pace. Second half winners who are have been able to overcome obstacles. A September surge helped assure the Brewers a second consecutive playoff spot.
The Brewers have not given up defending their title against the St. Louis Cardinals. Though the chances look slim it could happen. There are three games left and the Brewers have been hot in September. They just find ways to win games, motivation is high for them. The Chicago Cubs demise helped the Brewers in their comeback as they came back from 8 games back at one point.
What are there keys to success? They have a potent offense that hits a lot of home runs, especially in big moments. Ryan Braun in September slugging percentage of .667 and he has been one of the hottest hitters in September Rookie outfield Trent Grisham has a .807 OPS and 11 RBIs. The Brewers did lose Christian Yelich to a hamstring injury but they have managed to overcome it so far. The rest of the offense has picked up some of the load.
The pitching improvement has been a big part of the recent success for the Brewers. Chase Anderson, Zach Davies, Jordan Lyles and Gio Gonzalez in 16 starts have a combined .274 ERA. The rotation has picked up the pace in the second half of the season to help the Brewers make up the ground in the standings. Pitching wins games, especially in the playoffs.
It will be interesting to see if the Brewers can continue to be hot in the playoffs. They are a good team that has the makings of being successful in the playoffs. The Milwaukee Brewers look to be the real deal.
