WOW, if you have not seen the proposed MLB 2020 realignment of the Grapefruit and Cactus League’s you’re in fora treat. It’s basically a fantasy story. For example, what about a World Series match-up of the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers? it’s 2020, you haven’t time traveled. Cubs vs Cardinals? That one would be special. Now, onto the proposed new look MLB for 2020.
Grapefruit League
North Division: New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, Toronto Blue Jays, Detroit Tigers and Pittsburgh Pirates
South Division: Boston Red Sox, Minnesota Twins, Atlanta Braves, Tampa Bay Rays and Baltimore Orioles
East Division: Washington Nationals, Houston Astros, New York Mets, St. Louis Cardinals and Miami Marlins
Cactus League
Northeast Division: Chicago Cubs, San Francisco Giants, Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies and Oakland A’s
West Division: Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians and Los Angeles Angels
Northwest Division: Milwaukee Brewers, San Diego Padres, Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals
First off, you’re telling me I get to see Joey Gallo, Manny Machado and Christian Yelich hit dingers in the same division? Bryce Harper trying for a game winning long ball with Aroldis Chapman on the bump as a division matchup? World Series rematches?! WOOO! Sign me up!
Are we finally getting a universal Designated Hitter? These are the details we need to know. Don’t give me the home field American League team argument. In this scenario, you have the Grapefruit and Cactus Leagues. Not the American and National.
Very selfishly, I need this as a Phillies fan. In the same division as the Yankees. Man, that’s enough to get my blood boiling back to 2009. Joe Girardi getting to play the man that succeeded him as a division opponent? C’mon! THIS IS MUST HAVE SPORTS! I’ll bet you’re reading this right now thinking “this guy is why they greased the poles when the Eagles won”. No. Don’t put me in that overzealous fan base. I love my Phillies and Sixers, the other 2 teams in the complex on Broad Street aren’t for me.
I’ll be doing predictions for each division, so follow me @KennyYake let me know what you think and @BellyUpSports to see my upcoming content.
