As Week 12 comes to an end, the MVP race is not as telling as some previous years. As soon as Derrick Henry was starting to get the respect he deserved regarding the MVP conversation, he went down. Jonathan Taylor has been playing well and has replaced Henry in that conversation. Although, we know that a running back has a much more difficult time winning the award than a quarterback does.

Tom Brady is currently sitting as the favorite, which shouldn’t be much of a surprise. He has been the favorite for most of the season. I chose him myself at +637 back in October on Tallysight but there is a lot of football left.

There may be one man ready to make a run at the award not for himself, but for his teammates.

Kirk Cousins is currently ranked quietly as the QB 7 in fantasy football. Cousins has the best touchdown to interception ratio in the NFL, taking great care of the ball. He may be feeling like he let his team down this past week. Many people were quick to drag him for lining up behind the guard, and many will tell you he wasn’t worth his contract. I think he has been great for the Vikings and should be given more respect.

The Vikings are in a tough spot in the NFC currently at 5-6. With just 6 games remaining they most likely need to win out to give themselves a shot. Kirk has put them in a position to win almost every game this season with some coming down to last-second field goals.

Surprisingly, their loss this past week to the Niners was the worst loss they’ve suffered all year with the final score of 34-26. If Kirk can get back on track with a big win against the Lions on Sunday, I’d keep him on your radar. He is a determined player especially when it comes to his teammates.

The Athletic

Looking Forward

The Vikings have two big games Weeks 16 & 17 against the LA Rams and Green Bay Packers. If they were to win both of those games it would go a long way for Captain Kirk. If he can keep playing the way he is, he’ll have a shot.

Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson are playing like they are the best wide receiving core in the league, and they just might be. They currently combine for 16 touchdowns on the year.

A late-season push to get into the playoffs for Cousins and the Vikings could very well put him in the MVP Discussion. His odds on Tallysight to win MVP are currently +7000. You like that?!
