The curious case of the Colorado Rockies in 2024 has shown many sides. They have struggled and excelled in the same season.
There have been some tough games and moments in this first half of the season. However, they did have a great May with four series wins including a couple of sweeps against the league’s top teams. The Rockies sometimes look like two different teams depending on the day and team they face.
Rockies Curious Case

Their starting pitching has been great for the most with quality starts giving the team a chance to win every night. It’s the bullpen that creates havoc most nights as they struggle to hold leads and are the reason for many losses. It’s interesting how the rotation can pitch well but the bullpen struggles.
Besides the pitching, Colorado has a decent core of position players. This season they have had the best catching duo in franchise history with Elias Diaz and Jacob Stalling. Both the catchers have hot well and played outstanding defense. The Rockies are getting the most production from their centerfielder, catchers, and shortstop. On the other hand, the most curious thing could be how a team can make first base, right field, and designated hitter a liability.
More Case
Standard code Embed from Getty ImagesIt’s amazing how they can play well, one day but struggle the next. There is no consistency or direction for the Rockies. However, they have struggled with injuries to key players and bad calls on the field. They have improved on defense, especially in the infield and some of those outfield saves that Brenton Doyle and Jake Cave make are just fun to watch.
The Rockies are a team that is hard to categorize because they are not contending but at the same time, they are not rebuilding either. They have some good players already on the roster along with a decent farm system. Therefore, it will be interesting to see how the rest of the season plays out.
