The Baltimore Orioles are having a great season. They’ve consistently been hovering near the top of the American League East. The Orioles’ offense has been one of the best in the American League this season. However, Baltimore’s starting rotation leaves a lot to be desired. Options outside of Corbin Burnes and Grayson Rodriguez are limited. It hasn’t helped that they lost three starters for the season. However, the Orioles starting rotation will shatter the hearts of their fans this postseason.

This season, the O’s have been doing a great job of building off last season’s AL East title. So far this season, they’ve consistently been near the top of the division. The Orioles’ offense has been one of the best in the American League. Led by Adley Rutschman, Gunnar Henderson, and Anthony Santander, they are currently averaging 4.93 runs and lead the American League in home runs. While the O’s have a championship offense, their starting rotation is filled with question marks.

The Starting Rotation Has Question Marks

As a rotation, Baltimore currently has an ERA of 4.34. The only teams starting rotations giving up more runs are the Angels, Guardians, and Athletics. There aren’t many reliable options outside of Corbin Burnes and Grayson Rodriguez. While Albert Suarez is having a career year, he will reach his career high in innings pitched this season. Judging by his FIP (3.54), Suarez has also been a little lucky as well this year. Baltimore’s other starters Cade Povich, Cole Irvin, and Dean Kremer have all struggled. It hasn’t helped that they lost Kyle Bradish, John Means, and Tyler Wells for the season due to elbow injuries.

With the trade deadline coming up, Baltimore will be in the market for starting pitching. The O’s certainly have the prospects to make whatever move they want. Baltimore badly needs to upgrade the middle to the backend of their rotation. Povich, Irvin, and Kremer are unreliable and it remains to be seen how Suarez holds up. However, under GM Mike Elias, Baltimore has yet to truly make a splash at the trade deadline.

The O’s Starting Rotation Will Doom Them In The Postseason

To win a championship, a team must have a strong starting rotation from top to bottom. The Orioles don’t have enough quality starting pitching to win a championship. The middle to the back end of their starting rotation is very vulnerable. During Mike Elias’s tenure as GM, he has yet to make a splash at the deadline despite having the prospect capital. While the Orioles have a championship offense, their starting rotation will doom them come the postseason.
