There are some fun division and wild card playoff races to watch this year. As the MLB season is winding down and the postseason is on its way.

The 2024 season has two months left with teams already looking at the standings. There will be some fun races to follow in the coming weeks. It seems like the season has flown but there are still plenty of games to look forward to. Therefore let’s look at the current division leaders and wild card contenders.

Division and Wild Card Races AL

The American League is gearing up for fun division races. Such as the AL East which has three teams vying for postseason spots. The Orioles are behind a talented young roster leading the Yankees. Both teams will have tough matchups coming up. In the AL Central, the Guardians have a nice lead over the Twins. They are one of the biggest surprises to this point and they can win the division if they can continue to keep their foot on the gas.

The AL wild race is packed with teams vying for the last three spots. The Rangers and Rays are some of the top contenders for the spot. Meanwhile, the Red Sox are in the lead for the third wild card. They have surprised everyone with how well they are playing, and it helps to have a couple of young all-stars on the roster.  Also, look out for the Twins as they are in the mix and the Detroit Tigers are hanging around the crowded race.

There are interesting races in the NL this year. The Phillies lead the NL East by eight games over the Braves. It’s surprising because the Braves were expected to be at the division’s top. The Phillies have been one of the hottest teams in MLB with a powerhouse lineup. In the NL Central, the Brewers lead the Cardinals by three games. The Dodgers have a sizeable lead in the west as the other teams have struggled.

The NL Wild card may be more exciting than the division races. The red-hot Mets have blasted their way into the top NL wild-card spot. It is amazing how they have turned their season around. The Cardinals and Padres are big contenders in this race. Though the Giants are on the bubble and the Diamondbacks are one game out after a nice week. It will be interesting to see who makes the playoffs this year.

MLB is heading towards the stretch run  It seems that there may be new teams in the postseason this year. Stay tuned for MLB stories and news.
